Visit Velingrad
Overview
Velingrad is widely knows as "The Spa - Capital of the Balkans". The town is located in the western part of the Rhodope mountain. Beautiful nature and deposits of mineral waters make Velingrad one of the leading "balneological" resorts in the Balkans.
It was awarded with the title "The Spa - Capital of the Balkans" by the World Conference Branch Organization of Association of Hoteliers and Restaurateurs (IHRA), held in Monterrey, Mexico. Since 2005 Velingrad has been SPA - "Capital of Bulgaria" by decision of the Bulgarian Association of Hoteliers and Restaurateurs.
Velingrad has unique nature and developed tourist equipment, which offers tourist services all the year. 80 mineral springs, 15 kinds of water, extremely interesting and abundant historical heritage and nature attract 500 000 tourists every year in Velingrad.
Velingrad is also famous for the largest karst spring in Bulgaria, called Kleptuza. Its output is from 600 to 1200 l/sec, and supplies two ponds with a separated resting area with water wheels on the side.
Visit Velingrad by Train
You will be collected from your hotel and taken to the railway station at Bansko, then travel on the famous narrow gauge railway to Velingrad passing through the highest railway station in the Balkans. The train journey time is around three hours.
You will be met at Velingrad by the guide and there will be ample time for sightseeing, when completed you will be transported back to Bansko by car.
